What Comet Sound AI Actually Does (And What It Doesn’t)

“AI” has become the least informative word in music software. It is printed on mastering services, preset generators, stem splitters and chord suggesters, and it tells you nothing about what the thing actually does to your session.

So here is a plain description of Comet Sound AI: what it does, where it runs, and — the part most pages skip — what it deliberately does not do.

It moves parameters. That is the whole idea.

Comet Sound AI is a desktop app that talks to the Comet Sound plugins loaded in your DAW. You describe the result you want in your own words — a tighter vocal, more air on the top end, a room that sits further back — and it proposes a set of parameter changes on the plugins that are connected.

Proposes. Not applies. You see which controls it wants to move and by how much, and nothing changes until you confirm. That single design decision is what separates a tool from a slot machine: you stay the one who decides, and you learn something each time, because the move is visible instead of hidden inside a black box called “enhance”.

All six plugins are covered — Oxiturn, PhoenixCompressor, EimosEq, Aura, StarChain and Oblivion — with their real controls, not a generic three-knob abstraction of them.

It runs on your machine

The model ships inside the app and runs locally. Your session is not uploaded anywhere, there is no queue, and there is no monthly quota of “AI credits” to spend. It also means the app keeps working the same way at 2 a.m. on a train with no connection, which is more often than anyone admits the moment a mix actually gets finished.

The only thing that ever leaves your computer is the licence activation, once, exactly like the plugins.

What it does not do

It does not mix for you. There is no button that takes a rough session and returns a finished record. Balance, arrangement and taste are decisions with no correct answer, and a tool that pretends otherwise is selling confidence, not results.

It is not a preset generator. Presets are frozen guesses about a source they have never heard. Comet Sound AI works on the plugin you have open, in the state you left it, and its proposals are relative to what is already there.

It does not listen to your audio. It works with intent and parameters, not with your recordings. If you were waiting for the part where a company explains what happens to your unreleased tracks: nothing happens to them, because they never go anywhere.

It does not replace learning. If anything it does the opposite. Watching which parameter moves when you ask for “less boxy” is the fastest compression and EQ lesson most people will get, because it is attached to a sound you care about.

Where it fits in a session

Three moments, in our experience. The first is the blank-plugin moment, when you know what is wrong but not which control fixes it — describing the problem is faster than hunting. The second is the twentieth vocal of the day, when your ears are tired and a starting point beats a blank slate. The third is the revision request in a language that is not technical: “warmer”, “less aggressive”, “more space”. Those words are exactly what the app is built to translate.

Where it does not belong is the final decision. The last 10% of a mix is taste, and taste is the part you are being paid for.
