A Limiter And Soft Clipper Where Every Control Means One Thing
CL-80 is a true-peak limiter and a soft clipper in one instrument, built for the last stage of the chain — where a master, a drum bus or an 808 has to get loud without going flat. Four encoders, eighteen keys and a display: every control has one meaning, and it keeps it forever.
CLIP is the heart of it. At 0 % the limiter takes the peaks — clean and dynamic. At 100 % the clipper does — dense and loud, with the limiter only catching what is left. Anywhere in between you decide how the work is shared, and CEILING is never crossed, true peaks included.
Six curves, one character each
SOFT, ROUND, WARM, DENSE, CRISP and HARD set how the clipper bends the peaks, and WARM adds even harmonics. Switch curves while the track plays: the level stays put, so you judge the sound, not the loudness.
Clean at any oversampling
1X to 8X oversampling lowers the aliasing as you go up, and the latency is the same in every mode, so changing it never shifts your timing. BASS keeps everything under 120 Hz out of the clipper.
Hear exactly what it does
MATCH levels the loudness for an honest A/B, DELTA plays only what is being removed, and four memories A–D hold settings to compare in one click. The display shows LUFS, gain reduction and true peak, and the CLIP MAP glows where the clipper works.
In Your Studio
CL-80 installs in seconds and behaves itself: a signed installer on Windows, a signed and Apple-notarised package on macOS, VST3 and Audio Unit where your host expects them. No account to keep open while you work, no phoning home in the middle of a session.
Buy CL-80 once with a permanent licence and it stays in your studio, on up to three machines, with two updates included. It is also part of the Base plan, which unlocks every Comet Sound plugin; it is not included in Orbit Suite or in the Pro plan.
Questions
Does CL-80 work in my DAW?
Yes. On macOS CL-80 installs as VST3 and Audio Unit, on Windows as VST3, so it loads in Ableton Live, Logic Pro, FL Studio, Cubase, Studio One, Reaper and any other host you already work in.
What is the difference between a clipper and a limiter?
A limiter turns the level down for a moment when a peak arrives; a clipper reshapes the peak itself, instantly. Clipping keeps drums sharp, limiting is smoother on sustained material. In CL-80 the CLIP control decides how much of the job each one does.
Does it come with presets?
One hundred factory presets in twelve categories, from MASTER and STREAMING to CLUB, HIP-HOP, DRUMS, BASS and VOCAL. Save your own on the PRESETS page: they are shared by every instance of CL-80 on your computer.
Is CL-80 part of Orbit Suite?
No. CL-80 has its own licence and is not part of Orbit Suite or of the Pro plan. You can buy it once on its own, or get it with the Base plan, which unlocks every Comet Sound plugin.
Is there a free trial?
Bought on its own, CL-80 has a permanent licence and no trial: it asks for your key the first time you open it, and then it never expires. With the Base plan, which includes CL-80, you start with the 7-day free trial.
